Guardian Opportunities
Our main goal in our breeding program is to provide top quality dogs and to do so we need to keep improving our bloodlines by incorporating and retaining quality dogs for breeding. But we also know to give our dogs the best life possible we have to limit the amount of dogs we keep in our house. This is where our guardian home project comes into play, the Guardian home receives a top notch puppy or adolescent dog to raise as their own and when he/she are of breeding age we will schedule her to come and stay with us while she is in heat. Once she had been bred she will go back for her family until a week before her due date where she will return back to woodwinds home to welp out her puppies. After the puppies have been weaned (7/8 weeks) the mom will return to her family.
We do not believe that puppies or dogs are best served by being kennel raised. By placing them in a home environment that will be their forever home from the time they are puppies, or by placing as a young adult, we are doing our best to ensure their happiness and best start in life. We never have to kennel raise a dog when utilizing guardian homes.
It really is a very simple program even though it may seem like it has a lot of details. The main thing to remember is, if we as a people truly reject the idea of puppy mills, to my knowledge there is no better way than this guardian program to breed dogs in a humane, loving environment. People will find a way to get a dog for their family, and most people unknowingly choose puppy mills because it is the cheapest way to get dogs to the public.
